Possible Transportation Fees: Deliveries to Hagerstown / Frederick will incur a transportation fee of $60-$100. Our Rental Packages include FREE DELIVERY to much of Northern Virginia and the Washington DC subburbs - including everywhere from Alexandria to Winchester and down I-95 to Thornburg and north to Rockville and Silver Spring and within 50 miles of Catlett VA 20119 or Manassas, VA 20112. If you live further than 50 miles of Catlett VA 20119, you may incur a predetermined yearly transportation fee. For customers outside of our FREE DELIVERY area, please call us toll-free at 844-310-8782 for a delivery quote.

Possible additional fees: Due to the increase of feed cost and fuel cost, closer to delivery, there may be a slight surcharge for one or both of these items.

Homestead Glenda & Homestead Kate are now serving Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington DC Area including the Maryland subburbs with Rent The Chicken and Hatch The Chicken through their farm: Tis No Yolk. Their love of poultry started in 1998 when they began raising chickens and turkeys as 4H projects and ultimately income. Homestead Kate's pet turkey helps protect their flock from predators along with George the pig! They have teamed up with Rent The Chicken so you can love and care for hens as much as they do. While the eggs are great - chickens are just FUN! As for hatching, those who have the experience of hatching baby chicks can tell you that it's a memory you'll treasure for years! They believe farm-fresh eggs are an experience that can be available even in urban areas and would love to share their experiences with you. Homestead Shannon and Homestead Larry are serving Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington DC Area including the Maryland suburbs with Hatch The Chicken through The Abundance Farm. Their girls have been laying to sell-out crowds from their "Egg-Sell-Seer Hotel" honor stand at their farm for years. Their chickens are living their best life - eating well, getting plenty of fresh air, sunshine, AND lots of love! They have teamed up with Rent The Chicken to help provide the unforgettable experience of watching chicks emerge from an egg and enjoying the magical interaction you get with these little fluff-balls! A memory you'll treasure for years to come.

What happens to the chicks?

Here are a number of scenarios as to what happens to the baby chicks after our Hatch The Chicken program is complete:

The girls are raised to be hens for Rent The Chicken
The girls are raised as breeding stock for Hatch The Chicken
The boys are raised to be roosters to fertilize eggs for Hatch The Chicken
The girls are raised to lay eggs for our families
The boys are raised to protect our flocks to help keep them safe
The chicks are sold to families looking to expand their flocks
The roosters are sold to families looking to protect their flock

We can't confirm what other organizations do with their baby chicks after a hatching program but we know with our whole hearts that all of the chicks hatched with our Hatch The Chicken program provide a purpose following the rental. We value their lives and value what they bring to our business and those who participate in our programs.
